Course Syllabus
Description of Course:
This course is designed to review the proper evaluation and measurement techniques for an Adult Echocardiography exam. The materials include the current recommendations by the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE). Guidance for image optimization and measurement accuracy are discussed as the “best practices” for a Sonographer. Advanced Sonographic techniques are also covered in the course. A detailed review of Strain imaging, Ultrasound Contrast imaging and 3D applications are provided.
Sections Include:
- Left Heart Assessment
- Right Heart Assessment
- Cardiac Valve Assessment
- Strain Imaging
- Contrast Imaging
- 3D Imaging
Goals for the Course:
- To assist Sonographers in improving their exam technique and measurement accuracy
- To provide a review for Sonographers of the most current ASE recommendations
- To provide Sonographers with a review of advanced imaging techniques that are becoming more commonly used in the standard echocardiography examination
Course Objectives:
- Discuss the ASE recommendations for imaging and quantification of the cardiac chambers
- Discuss the ASE recommendations for imaging and quantification of the cardiac valves
- Describe techniques used for obtaining 2D images and image optimization
- Identify images and measurements that are correctly obtained
- Describe the purpose strain imaging and the best practices for obtaining strain data
- List the names and types of contrast used in ultrasound imaging
- Discuss the indications and effects of contrast used in echocardiography examinations
- Describe techniques used for obtaining ultrasound contrast images and image optimization
- Differentiate the two primary types of 3D imaging in echocardiography
- Discuss the components of a 3D ultrasound system and how they function to produce the image
- Describe techniques used to improve 3D imaging and prevent acoustic artifacts
- List the recommended standard images obtained in a 3D evaluation of the heart
No accompanying text or required readings. Material can be referenced in the numerous resources listed on the attached Bibliography pages.
Requirements for Achieving CME Credit: Participants will receive 7 CME credits for reviewing all pages of the activity, completing the post test with a score of 75% or greater and submitting the Course Evaluation questions. Certificates will be emailed to the participant within 3-5 business days after documentation has been received.
